You Have to Be Completely Honest

I never ever wore perfume until a few years ago.

For real, it just seemed like the most unnecessary extravagance. Then one year for my birthday my significant other at the time gave me a pretty bottle of fragrance. I had specifically requested which one I wanted so that there would be no mix-ups or confusion. One spritz and I was hooked. Now the only time I don't wear fragrance is when I'm exercising.

I presently have two fragrances that I use. One is Tom Ford's Black Orchid, which is very heavy and musky and smells like sex on a yacht in St. Barth's. The other is YSL's Elle, which is light and flowery and my every day go-to fragrance.

I'd like to acquire a third scent that is not like the others, and I recently did some major R&D at Sephora and walked away with three possibilities. I am going to AVOID telling you the names of these fragrances so that this poll can be double-blind.

Choice One: a light scent that totally reminds me of cotton candy. Might be too "youthful" and sugary of a scent but I like it although let's face it, I'm not getting any younger! I also adore the bottle design.

Choice Two: a light scent that I can only describe as fresh and clean and the tiniest bit citrusy. I have no qualms about this however I am not crazy about the bottle design.

Choice Three: the most classic perfume ever. So classic, in fact, that it smells kind of "old lady" to me, although it has a nice powdery finish after it's been on my skin for a while.

All three of these perfumes fulfill the basic elements of what I'm looking for: I like them, and they smell very different from the other two scents I have. If you could pick one and only one, which one would it be? Do NOT scroll down until you have voted, wherein I reveal the choices by their actual names.

I just bought my first "real" fragrance after a long scentless break. Black Orchid was one of my top choices and it definitely smells like sex. I ended up picking Fracas by Robert Piguet, which I had always thought would be too flowery for me, but it's actually very sexy and feminine without feeling frilly or overpowering. I might still end up getting Black Orchid, though now I'm holding my breath for Tom Ford's White Patchouli, to see if he can redeem patchouli for me. Chanel No. 5 didn't do it for me, but give Fracas a sniff if you're looking for an alternative in the same grownup vein.

Thanks for your wonderful response to my question a while back. I really appreciated it and it did help. I'm still shaping my style strategy, and you've given me some valuable ideas.

I wear Miss Dior Cherie a lot. I love it so much. I want to wear No 5, I really do but I am just not mature enough to be there yet. I so vote for the Dior!

I love Miss Dior Cherie - it's the only perfume I have right now. I like how it's sweet but not cloying and it's a good go-with-everything scent.

Woo hoo! I figured the third option was Chanel No. 5 - such a classic scent, but I don't quite feel like I've "earned my right" to wear it yet. Someday, someday.

I own the other two - the Burberry Brit is a standby: I love love love the freshness of it. It's got just the teeniest hint of muskiness to lend it some gravity, so it's not teeny-bopper-sweet.

As for the Miss Dior Cherie, I don't find it to be cotton-candy sweet. At least not *on* me. After it's settled a bit, it smells (to me) like the most innocently sensuous scent ever. It makes me think of a crisp white button down with rolled sleeves and unbuttoned down-to-there...clean, classic, but with just a bit of temptation thrown in. Love it.
